These are the names of both my grandmothers that shaped mine: Aurea. For years I dreaded the name. “Too old school”, I’d say, back when celebrities and trends dictated my lifestyle. I would hide beneath a nickname given to me by those friends I hardly see, pretending I was somebody else but me. Now, as I step into my own shoes, playing the role of myself, I’m beginning to embrace the details that make me simply me. Inspired by Aurelia’s strong values and personality, Andrea’s wit, and humor, plus my mother’s desire to be different, I grew up to be a little dramatic, whimsical and crazy.

Since 2015, my interests and exploration in fashion brought me to study the making of a wearable structure at Southern Institute of Technology in Invercargill, New Zealand. I have learned of my inner creativity and discovered the skill of constructing clothes. Nowadays, I continue to explore the many sides of the creative industry through my Bachelor’s studies at Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand and personal projects. These explorations also inspired me to learn more about the textile gems of my home country, Philippines, and give light to the once dying industry. My fashion has changed dramatically from continuously replenishing my collection with every new trend from a fast fashion retail to a more curated quality pieces that are either

created by myself, thoughtfully bought or borrowed from stylish friends and family. These pieces altogether create a classic yet eccentric style pushed a little to the edge.

Fashion is a great storyteller. It gets passed down from generations to generations. It’s a detail in an important memory, an event, or an experience. It represents a time in society as it reacts to its changes. It previews a life that once was. I wish to tell my story and everything that surrounds it. From the littlest details to the entire outfit, it will be my story, while accompanied by everything else that fulfills this exploration of my purpose. Hopefully, these stories will also inspire those wanting to pursue a creative lifestyle, whether through clothing or other mediums.

These pages will be filled with the many interests I have in this life. My curiosity, passion, and learning of the fashion design world as a student of the craft. The cultures of the world through its local threads, meals, beans, and wonders. As well as the films and music I absorb creating a little bit of escapism away from my inner blabber.
